Currently and a Sale!!

I'm linking up with Farley today for the February version of Currently!  Here ya go!

I'm going to keep this quick because I want to finish up some school stuff, clean up the kitchen and get the goodies going for the game tonight.

I'm listening to my husband cough, which has now turned into a snore since he fell asleep on the couch.  Poor guy is battling a pretty good cold.  He's actually thinking of calling in sick tomorrow and he NEVER calls in sick.  Just hope I don't get it!  Ain't no one got time for that . . .

I love Super Bowl Sunday.  I love the hype.  I love the pregame.  I love the commercials.  I love the music.  I love the football.  I love the food.  Super Bowl Sunday=a license to eat junk food ALL DAY LONG right??  I'm not really a fan of either team, but I am a Peyton Manning fan so I'll be cheering for the Broncos.

All my Ohio peeps will feel my pain on this one.  We have our second round of OTES evaluations coming up and I know I need to be prepared, but I just can't get motivated.  And today is Super Bowl Sunday.  That's a holiday, right??

I hate dishes.  They are never done.  There is always another one to wash.  Ugh.

Like I said, I have a few school things to finish up so I can focus on the food and football!

And my 2 truths and a fib--I'm going to let you think on that until the end of the post.

Since it's Super Bowl Sunday and many of you may be football widows today, I'm joining in with many other TpT'ers so put my store on sale for the rest of the day!  Empty out that shopping cart!  Click the image to head to my store.

Now don't forget to go check out Farley's blog to see what everyone else is Currently up to in the bloggy world!
Oh' boy fourth grade

Oh yeah, and about that fib.  I really am an only child and I really do love Country Music.  But Coke makes me gag.  I'm a Pepsi girl ALL.THE.WAY  That blue can makes the world a better place . . .

Five for Friday ON FRIDAY!

Hello, friends!  It's been a LONG time since I've actually posted a Five for Friday post ON Friday!  Yay, me!  Here's a peek at what was going on in my world this week!

SNOW!  Snow and frigid temps happened this week!  We had 4 snow days in a row with a weekend in the middle.  My husband and I decided to venture to town to get a few things at the store before it got worse when we woke up Saturday morning.  This was what it looked like on our trip home.  Thank goodness for a big 4 wheel drive truck!

I recently signed up to be a Jamberry Nails Independent Consultant.  My consultant kit arrived on Thursday (the day before the first of the four snow days!) so I had lots of time to get acquainted with everything and get my Facebook page going.  If you haven't heard of Jamberry, you really should check it out.  I know you're all thinking "yeah, right, she just wants to sell us stuff."  No, that's not it.  I am so excited about this product that I just want you to KNOW about it!  If you love to have cute nails, but hate the chipping of regular polish, you need to try these nail wraps! That picture is of my nails on the first day I applied the wraps and after a week of wear.  Still look brand new! Check out my Facebook page to learn more!

We did finally get back to school on Thursday.  My kids were so happy to be back and to see all their friends.  This wonderful creation was built during their morning play time.  Because the kids all arrive at different times, I just let them have play time for the first 15 minutes before the bell rings and we get down to business!

We've been trying to study penguins.  It's been tough since I think we've been to school all of 11 days in January due to weather and some of those days were 2 hour delays!  Today, my kids built CVC words with magnet letters.  This activity came from Caitlin over at Kindergarten Smile's awesome penguin unit.  You can find it HERE!

I actually got to sit down and listen to my kiddos read today!  Between all the craziness of the snow days, report card assessments, and winter benchmarking assessments, I felt like I hadn't heard them read since before Christmas!  I was so pleasantly surprised!  Look at that text that this sweet girl was working through!  That is what it's all about.  I just LOVE to hear them read!

Thanks for journeying through my week with me!  Don't forget to head over to Doodlebugs to see what everyone else did this week!  I bet there are LOTS of pictures of snow and the temps reading below zero.  Seems like the winter weather hit us all this week!

Five for Funday!

A little late to the party, I know, but I still wanted to join up with the Five for Friday fun over at Doodelbugs Teaching!

My colleagues and I were lucky enough to attend the Ohio Kindergarten Conference on Monday and Tuesday in Columbus.  We had a great time, got lots of great ideas, and had a lot of fun.  But, best of all, we got to meet the fabulous DeeDee Wills from Mrs. Wills Kindergarten AND the amazing Deanna Jump from Mrs. Jump's Class.  We were in bloggy nerd heaven!  It was so much fun to finally see them in person after following their blogs for so long!  If you ever get the chance, GO!  They were terrific!

(That's me on the left and my colleage Kristy from The Phonics Phenomenon on the right.)

I became a Jamberry Independent Consultant this week!  If you haven't heard of Jamberry, go check out the website HERE.  I'm anxiously awaiting my kit so I can get started!  I got hooked when I requested a sample from Christi over at Mrs. Fultz's Corner.  If you're interested, you can find my Facebook page HERE.  I'm so excited to get started, I can hardly stand it!

Forgive the less than stellar quality of that picture!  Basketball is huge where I live, especially girls basketball.  There are only two high schools in my county and between those two high schools, we hold 18 state championship appearances and 7 state titles.  Both teams look to be headed back to state this year, too.  Every year on MLK weekend, there is a giant showcase for high school girls basketball held here.  It's a huge deal with college coaches coming in from all over the nation.  20 games take place over the 3 day weekend.  I try to spend as much time out there as possible.  It's a great atmosphere and great basketball!  Those are my girls warming up before our game.  I actually had some of them in school!

I will be prepping to begin our penguin unit this coming week.  This is my favorite unit of the year!  It just brings a lot of fun and excitement to that dreary winter period following the holidays.  I use THIS great penguin unit from Caitlin over at Kindergarten Smiles.  We also like to watch THIS live penguin cam from Sea World.  It's so much fun!

Finally, a few of my bloggy friends and I put together a little snowball fight freebie hop!  You need to go there NOW!  I gathered all the freebies last night and they are awesome!  And I'm not just saying that because I'm a part of it.  They really are amazing!  It's definitely worth some time for you to head over and join in the snowball fight!  You can get all the details HERE.

After you've completed the Freebie hop, don't forget to head over to Doodlebugs to see what everyone else has been up to this week!  Happy hopping!

Happy 2014!

Am I really posting two days in a row??  Yes, yes I am!  Maybe I'll stick to my goal of blogging more regularly this year.  It probably helps that the holidays are over and I'm still on Christmas Break!

Tonight I'm joining two different link ups with this post.  First, I'm linking up with Sunny Days in Second Grade to share my One Little Word for 2014.  I've thought about this a lot and here's what I came up with.

I really need to have more balance in my life.  I tend to have an addictive personality.  Whether that be addiction to blogs, addiction to clip art, addiction to Candy Crush, addiction to Scandal on Netflix--well, you get the idea.  I just need to be much more aware of how I spend my time both at school and at home.  More family time, less computer time.  More workout time, less Candy Crush time. More devotional time, less blog reading time.  You get the idea.

I'm also posting my January Currently.  I love this linky and look forward to it every month because it really helps me focus in on what's really going on in my head right now.

I'm listening to the Rose Bowl.  I love college football, so this has been a great day for me.  I'm rooting for the Spartans.  Not necessarily because I like the Spartans, but we're huge Buckeyes fans and that means we root for the Big Ten.  Even if that means rooting for the team that beat us and kept us out of the National Championship Game this year.  (yes, I'm a little bitter).

I'm loving Christmas Break.  We had a full two weeks off this year so we don't go back until Monday.  It has been THE best Christmas Break.  We weren't over scheduled.  We had several pj days.  We had lots of family time.  We've eaten lots of junk, watched lots of movies, played lots of games.  It's just been the best.

I'm thinking that I'm ready to head back into the classroom on Monday.  I have a difficult group of kids this year, and I really needed the break.  I've thought very little about school and it was so good for my disposition!  I'm refreshed and ready to face those 18 lovely faces on Monday morning!!

I'm wanting a snow storm.  We are supposed to be getting some snow, but I'm afraid that most of it is going to stay north of us.  Not fair!  I want to be snowed in.  Hubby is off this week, too, so we could all just sit inside and watch it pile up.  Then we could go sledding!!

I really need to do some lesson planning and be sure I'm ready for next week.  I have it all in my head, but I need to get it on paper and make sure it's all prepped and ready to go!

My memory of this Christmas will be spending the morning in the ER with my hubby who cut himself while opening up our son's robot.  Luckily, it wasn't too bad and only required 4 stitches.  Lesson learned--move the knife away from your hand when cutting rather than towards you!

Thanks for sticking with me for this long post!  Go check out all the other posts linked up with Sunny Days in Second Grade and Oh' Boy 4th Grade!

Teachers of Instagram

Hold on to your hats, people!  Yes, I'm blogging!  Yes, it's been almost a month. Yes, my goal for 2014 is to blog at least once a week and actually do more than just join linky parties!  I promise to do better, my dear followers!

I'm going to end 2013 by linking up with Elizabeth over at Kickin' It In Kindergarten for her Teachers of Instagram linky.

Slide1

I love Instagram.  While I have been absent from the blog, I haven't been absent from Instagram.  It's so quick and easy and fun to see what everyone else is up to!  If you aren't already a follower, you can find me at @alwaysanadventureink or just click that cute little Instagram over on your right!

Here's my three favorite pictures from my Instagram account (with a bonus thrown in because I couldn't pick just 3!)

My hubby and I took a weekend getaway to the Buckeyes game this fall.  We had so much fun!

If you follow, you know that I spend a lot of time at the soccer field in the fall and spring and at the indoor field in the winter.  This is my favorite soccer picture with the rainbow over the field.  It was beautiful!

Is there anything better than morning coffee on the deck overlooking the beach?

And the bonus.  I bought my own laminator this summer and it was the start of an obsession!  I barely use the laminator at school anymore because I like my own so much better!

So there's my top three (or four!) If you aren't on Instagram, head over and sign up.  If you are, follow me!  I'd love to follow you and see what you're up to!

I'm off to prepare some yummy food and wait for our good friends to arrive to ring in the new year!

Currently December!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!!  I'm linking up with Farley this morning for my Currently post.  This is going to be short and sweet because I actually have to go to school today. It has been so nice to have a week off.  I love that we get Monday after Thanksgiving off, too.  It always feels like a bonus day.  Guess those are the perks of living in an area where hunting is a huge deal--you get the first day of deer season off from school!

Anyway, here's what's Currently going on with me . . . .

Most of this is pretty self explanatory . . .

I think I've mentioned in previous posts how loud my dog snores.  That could probably always be what I list in that box!

I got my house all decorated this weekend.  Is there seriously anything better than sitting down at night with only the Christmas lights on in the house??  It makes me want to watch It's a Wonderful Life every night!
Here are two of my favorite ornaments from our tree.

Hubby gets an ornament like this each year for the kids and I.  Last year, we finally had enough to do our whole tree in these glass ornaments.  I love them so much!

I really need to make a list of what I've already purchased for my family and what I still need to get.  I keep telling myself I'm almost done.  I actually think I'm done DECIDING what to get, but I don't think I've gotten it all yet.  Big difference!

Yes, I'm already hoping for snow on Christmas.  Hey, we had a white Thanksgiving so I don't think a white Christmas is too much to ask for, is it??

One thing I didn't get to this weekend was loading the Christmas music onto my iPod.  Thank goodness for Sirius radio and Pandora.  It got us through the decorating!

Going to our Christmas Eve service at my church is my favorite tradition.  I think I've only ever missed one service in my entire life and that was because it was cancelled due to a huge winter storm.  Our church sits up on a hill and has a long drive up to it.  The drive is lined with luminaries and it's so beautiful.  And when the entire congregation forms a circle, lights their candles, and sings Silent Night, well, I get emotional just thinking about it . . . .

I'm going to go link this up with Farley and I can't wait to read about everyone else's Christmas traditions!  Thanks for reading . . .

Who doesn't love a sale??

Are you gearing up for the Cyber Monday and Tuesday sale over at TpT?  I know I am!  I've been loading up my cart for a week now.  By the time I'm done, I should be all set for Christmas and beyond!

My store will be 20% off along with MANY other great stores.  I've linked up with Primary Possibilities for their list of stores offering deals.  Head over there and check out all the great items.  Stick them in your cart so you're ready and then all you have to do on Monday is enter the code and checkout!

OK--I'm off to whip up a couple of Christmas Math and Literacy centers in hopes of getting them uploaded before the big sale!

Five for Friday--I'M BAAACK!!

Well, friends, in my last post I promised to be better about blogging.  It hasn't happened and I'm sorry!  Life is just nuts sometimes, isn't it?? Well, I've finally found myself with a Saturday morning with no place to be so here I am!  I love having a few hours in the morning to blog and catch up on everyone else's blogs.  I really miss it and wish I could find more time in each day!  Here's a little peek at what I've been up to over the last few weeks!

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2013/11/five-for-friday-linky-party-november.html

We've been using activities from the amazing Caitlin Clabby from Kindergarten Smiles a lot this month.  This activity is from her October Word Work pack.  So much good stuff!!  If you have never visited Caitlin's blog, you need to go there NOW.  She's amazing.

Part of why I've been neglecting this blog is because of this fabulous new evaluation system in Ohio {insert sarcasm here}.  I've had my pre-conference for my observation, my observation and then my post conference within the last week.  Add two nights of parent-teacher conferences in there and the fact that grade cards were due the week before and there goes ALL my time to blog!  Our district gave us these binders to collect our evidence.  I really need to find time to work on it.  Right now, I stuff papers in the pockets, but haven't organized it at all!

I got this little gem of a letter hand delivered the other day from one of my students from last year.  So sweet!  And so exciting to see other teachers in my building using great TpT resources!  This can be found HERE from A Cupcake for the Teacher.  Don't you love getting little love notes from former students??

Here's one of my cuties (don't you love that shirt??) using the letter tracing cards that I made.  I made my own set because we use Wilson Fundations as our phonics program and I really wanted to have the pictures match our keywords for each letter.  Not always easy when they use "Ed" for /e/ and "fun" for /f/ so I made my own set.  I know that those pictures wouldn't be helpful in classrooms that don't use Fundations, so I made a version of those cards with more common pictures for those letters.  You can find them HERE in my TpT store.  It's a new product so it's on sale today!  I use these with my kiddos who are struggling to learn letter names and sounds.  This is recommended in the book, The Next Step in Guided Reading by Jan Richardson to help build that letter sound knowledge.

We made these awesome pilgrims this week and wrote about things that we are thankful for.  This made a great hallway display for parent-teacher conferences.  The craftivity and writing template is from Caitlin again and is found in her November Unit.  Like I said before, she's amazing.  Go check it out!

And here's a bonus pic just because I want to share!
My little girl is growing up!  They had a Middle School dance last weekend and here's my girl (on the left) with her BFF at the dance.  Hubby and I were chaperones and he actually teared up a little bit when she walked in with her friends.  She's not little anymore!!

Well there it is, folks!  That's what's up with me!  Now I'm going to go link up with Doodlebugs and check out what everyone else has been up to.  You should, too!
